With over one third of the US adult population (33.8%) ranked in the obese category, proper and lasting weight loss is a goal on the minds of many Americans. What most people do not understand is that successful weight loss is often determined by an individual’s ability to clear toxins and cellular waste from the body. We are exposed to everyday toxins, like pollutants, pesticides and chemicals in our processed foods, cleaning and skin care products…and our medicine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that hundreds of manmade chemicals are present in our bodies, contributing to disruptions in our immune, endocrine, nervous and reproductive systems.
As an individual’s toxic burden increases with excess weight, adverse metabolic effects on blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and insulin resistance (leading to Diabetes) may arise. Our own bodies even produce waste byproducts as a result of normal function.
Although our bodies are designed to rid itself of these toxins naturally, processes can become overburdened, allowing for the recirculation of harmful cellular waste and excess hormones. The primary organs responsible for excretion functions are the small intestines, colon, kidneys and liver.
